Our Stories, Our Words
A century of Women's Movements in India
We have always had a vision to bring the incredible stories of women’s movement in India and feminist collectivism to life in a way that’s vibrant, engaging, and accessible to all. After years of planning and passion, we hope to do this through one of our many projects “Our Stories, Our Words.” Think of it as a series of ten graphic books for each decade starting from 1920 till 2010, that take you on a journey through hundred years of activism, protests, life stories, cultural revolution, the creation of women’s organizations and much more. Each book covers a decade, revealing the untold and under-represented narratives that shaped our history.
Overview
Feminist movements and women from marginalized communities have always been at the forefront of change, but their contributions often go unnoticed. Traditional histories tend to highlight the powerful, leaving out the voices from the margins. Through OSOW we are making an attempt to dive deep into the diverse, interconnected, and multilayered stories of women’s movements by bringing together a dynamic team of young artists, writers and researchers from marginalized communities to co-create these stories. By blending traditional and modern art forms, we seek to capture the richness and variety of women’s experiences and ensure these stories are as colorful and diverse as the women who lived them.
Accessibility is at the heart of our project. We are committed to making these stories available in multiple formats– translations, audiobooks, braille books, podcasts and more. We want everyone to join the conversation. Through social media campaigns, community engagement and public events/exhibitions (fingers crossed for funding!) we aspire to bring these power narratives to a wider audience.
